Meet Janet Harris – Financial Adviser – Mortgages

I have been a mortgage broker and adviser since January 2007. I started my own company, Point Home Loans in April 2012, and under the Financial Markets Act, I am a Financial Adviser, authorised to give advice on mortgage and other lending on behalf of Point Home Loans. 

I was born in England and spent my first few years growing up in Wiltshire, close to Stonehenge, before my parents moved us to Auckland, where I went to school at Westlake Girls in Takapuna. The family home was in Long Bay at the top of the North Shore of Auckland, long before that area became fashionable – I kept my pony in a craggy cliff top paddock, with far-reaching views over the Hauraki Gulf, and Long Bay park was full of holiday baches. That old paddock is now full of multi-million dollar homes and the old baches are long gone.

After an early career in fashion design and pattern cutting, and then a few years of travelling, I decided to become an accountant. Not so much of a dramatic change in career when you consider that both require great attention to detail and precision!

I worked mostly as a company accountant in the fashion industry, before deciding on another career adjustment – not as big a change this time – to become a mortgage adviser. I still use my skills in analysing problems, with a good eye for detail to identify issues, find solutions and meet strict deadlines, but I also get to talk to people and help them in a positive way, too.

As a mortgage adviser, I love to help people in their home buying journey – whether a first home, next step as the family is growing, investment property or just another house – it’s an honour for me to be part of what is likely to be one of your biggest financial decisions, and to help you with impartial advice that takes the hassle out of the whole house buying process. 

You won’t be just another loan or number with me, I will give you genuine and individual advice on all aspects of the home buying process, with prompt and efficient service.
